Video over Cellular (VoC)

The Need

Many ad-hoc scenarios bring with them a need to deploy a temporary security camera network, for example:

  • Concerts, exhibitions, sporting events, political conventions, demonstrations, public events, etc.
  • Building and construction sites
  • Events where there is a terrorist threat or potential criminal activity
  • Events where there are high-profile individuals (e.g. politicians, celebrities, athletes)

However, if the location lacks sufficient telecommunication infrastructure, the installation process of installing the required infrastructure can be much too time consuming, expensive and daunting to be worthwhile.

This then leaves another option. The cellular network, which is available almost everywhere, subsequently becomes the only practical solution for many ad-hoc security camera networks to use for security and protection.

Video over Cellular

Until now the technological challenge in order to use cellular networks were unsuited for real-time transmission of multiple security cameras feeds, as they offered limited, fluctuating bandwidth.

Security applications require stable, reliable bandwidth.

ALDELTA has developed the solution

Video Over Cellular technology. By using smart and ingenious manipulation to scale up the quantity and quality of video it can now be transmitted over
existing networks.

ALDELTA’s approach

ALDELTA’s solution uses smart technology based on Machine Learning to allocate scarce cellular network resources, “stretching” them to support multiple high-quality camera streams. Using a program on our Edge Agent Box, ALDELTA’s algorithm first analyses the statistical behaviour of each recorded object and the available network capacity. Then a central management unit (located in the cloud or a control room) correlates between the two and allocates cellular network resources as required, and then optimizes the video stream. The use of ALDELTA technology enables a tenfold increase in the network’s spectral efficiency: for example, twenty camera feeds can be transmitted over a link that previously supported just two.

ALDELTA’s innovative solution is quick and easy to deploy

  1. Connect the cameras to a pole or mounting point
  2. Supply power (via battery or solar)
  3. Connect a SIM card
  4. Activate the system

ALDELTA’s video management system receives the IP of the unit installed in the field and begins immediate transmission of the video to the control room or cloud. When surveillance is no longer required, the unit can be dismantled and moved to another location.
